I nuked the other 4 COD topics we had. Consolidation rules.

I finished the first round (Level1-70) in 3 days and 11 hours of gameplay.

At that pace, it will take approx 38.5 days of gameplay to complete all 10 Prestige levels.

That's a lot of gaming. Hopefully they throw up some double XP weekends. I don't think they've done one yet...

GameTrailers

It may come as no surprise that according to a “senior UK trade source” the next Call of Duty title will be released this November. Considering the prior release schedule for the franchise and outstanding success of Modern Warfare 2, I don’t think anyone will be shocked.

“It’s going to be November again – just as with World At War and Modern Warfare 2,” the source told CVG. “Activision believes that it can own Christmas 2010, just as it has in the last two years. Development is on course – and Treyarch have been told the game must be ready to hit shelves before the gifting season.”

According to the same source, the game, which has been rumored to take place in Vietnam, is heavily influenced by cinema classics Platoon and Apocalypse Now.

Of course, until Activision makes it official it will have to remain a rumor, but you can stay tuned to the ‘Axe for more details as they come our way. Excited? Not excited? Discuss.

Vietnam era would rock some real neat and rare types of rifles were used in that era. M-16 with the xm-148 and heat shield looks pretty cool. The first underslung 203 type launcher for the M-16.

Activision Blizzard says 'Call of Duty' has crossed the $1 billion mark

SANTA MONICA, Calif. - Video game publisher Activision Blizzard Inc. said Wednesday that the game "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" has brought in more than US$1 billion in revenue since it went on sale in November.

Given that pace, the game is on track to become the best selling video game ever by number of copies sold, said Michael Pachter, an analyst at Wedbush Morgan.

Based on the revenue figure, Pachter said the company has probably shipped about 17 million copies of the game so far. And he expects it to surpass the roughly 23 million copies sold of "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas," which was released in 2004 and holds the previous record.

"Call of Duty" has an edge because of its online multi-player mode. New updates to the online version can give titles a longer shelf life.

Still, Pachter said he doesn't expect Activision's fourth-quarter financial results to surpass expectations. "They're not killing it, but they're making it," he said.

While "Call of Duty" sales are "impressive," titles such as "Guitar Hero" have been lacklustre.

Others in the video game industry have given indications of weak holiday sales. Rival Electronic Arts Inc. this week slashed its 2009 earnings estimate for the second time. GameStop Corp., the world's biggest video game retailer, said sales during the shopping season dropped 8.6 per cent from the year before.

Activision shares rose six cents to $10.83 in afternoon trading

Well now that I dont have to do the silly running around for 104 miles challenge, I can try and waste a little less time and maybe do a sub-72 hour lap....

Call of Duty founders sue Activision

04/03/2010 1:01:20 PM

CBC News
The founders of Call of Duty, one of the most successful video game franchises ever, are suing Activision after being forced out of their company.

Jason West and Vince Zampella, two of the founders of Encino, Calif.-based Infinity Ward, announced the lawsuit in a release on Wednesday. They said they were terminated by Activision weeks before they were set to receive royalties for their smash hit Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which has earned more than $3 billion U.S. since its November release.

"We were shocked by Activision's decision to terminate our contract," West said. "We poured our heart and soul into that company, building not only a world-class development studio, but assembling a team we've been proud to work with for nearly a decade. We think the work we've done speaks for itself."

Activision has not yet responded to the lawsuit.

The company bought Infinity Ward in 2003 and fired West and Zampella on Monday. Media reports said the decision stemmed from a dispute over the future direction of the Call of Duty franchise. Video game websites have speculated that Activision wants to greatly increase the number of Call of Duty games released while the founders instead wanted fewer titles so they could focus on quality.

Robert Schwartz, a lawyer for West and Zampella at O'Melveny & Myers, said the lawsuit is alleging breach of contract and wrongful termination, among other things.

"Instead of thanking, lauding, or just plain paying Jason and Vince for giving Activision the most successful entertainment product ever offered to the public, last month Activision hired lawyers to conduct a pretextual 'investigation' into unstated and unsubstantiated charges of 'insubordination' and 'breach of fiduciary duty,' which then became the grounds for their termination," Schwartz said in a statement.

Call of Duty 7 - Vietnam just ONE of many cold war era missions rumored.
Looks like the game will take us to different locations and incidents that occured during the cold war even including the 80s Iranian Embassy hostage crisis -

http://planetcallofduty.gamespy.com/....php?id=162077

"... With a scheduled release date of November 2010 the game is still in full development but undisclosed sources over at Activision have stated that "Call of Duty 7 will be set in recent history, between WWII and present day". Besides this information the sources have also confirmed that some missions will take us to Cuba and South America, hinting again in the direction of a Cold War / Vietnam based game.

Also revealed was that in certain missions the players are able to play as a member of SAS (the Special Air Service), the principle special forces unit of the British Army. One of these SAS missions pitches you in close combat during a mission in the Iranian embassy in London during the 1980's.

It has also been confirmed that Call of Duty 7: Black Ops will feature the popular zombie mode, in which players get to shoot down hordes of zombies, a feature that could not be seen in the Infinity Ward produced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

And last but not least, dedicated servers will also be part of the new Call of Duty game, much to the delight of PC gamers across the world. After Activision fired Vince Zampella and Jason West from Infinity Ward, it seems like they are taking yet another step back from the direction they had taken with Modern Warfare 2 by re-adding dedicated servers."

3 Days 10 hours for this lap.

First Run - 3 D 11 hrs
Second Run - 3 D 1 hr
Third Run - 3D 11 hr
Fourth Run - 3 D 10 hrs

Second run was WAY faster cause I did all the challenges with my fav weapons. M4, SCAR, ACR . . Now I am using the less "practical" guns and it's taking longer... But I still think a sub 72 hour run is possible... I may take a shot at that, make it a personal challenge.

Yea, had it done except the penetration kills, and I needed to hammer them out before resetting to level one. Took me a couple extra games, but I got it done...

Up next is SAWs and pistols I think...

Yea, but my goal is to get ALL the titles and emblems. And I hope to do it before my birthday, which is essentially 1 yr after the game was released. Well, I got the game as a birthday present nonetheless....

True. I'm rather enjoying getting RPG kills. Unpredictable flight path past about 30 feet it seems but so satisfying. Have done some long range hits with em, and went 3 for 3 my first attempts on Terminal the other day. Two of which happened to be on my bro in law who I hadn't seen join the room. Good times.

So here's why my system is fucked. You see the two square units? Well the top one is cleaned, the bottom one is how I found em when I opened it up... the white goo SHOULD be evenly spread over the unit. It isn't. Thus the heat that should be going through the heat sink and fan apparatus to keep things working was staying in the processors. Long story short, solder cracked. The thermal paste is SUPPOSED to be a nice even thin layer to help with heat transfer. Some of the units (apparently MOSTLY old 60 gigs, but some newer units as well) had iffy paste application and thus over time this happens, leading to the rare (especially compared to XBox Red Ring of Death) Yellow Light of Doom.

One of the signs that this MAY be coming is the fan unit getting loud as it tries harder and harder to cool the unit. Now that I think about it, mine was bordering on aircraft liftoff speed from time to time...

just as a suggestion , if the solder is cracked you might try reheating it (using a soldering iron not a blow dryer). When it melts it should completely reform the bond. if not could try resoldering. just gotta be really careful when youre doing that on a circuit board b/c if you heat up the component too much it can wreak all sorts of havock

Um, I AM reheating it, and definitely not with a hairdryer. Nor will a soldering iron work. Absolutely no way to use any soldering iron I have ever seen.

I'm following the instructions from Colin Gilks, the UK tech nerd that figured the whole thing out. Down to timing, temperature, fan speed (on the heat gun) and all that jazz. Its all about reflowing the solder, not resoldering. That is not an at home job lol but a guy CAN (usually) reflow it. I had it working for about ten minutes...now to try one more time for a more permanent(ish) fix.

Nod, although I'd be more worried about a heat gun than a soldering iron if it's a visible solder joint. Usually if you just touch one with a soldering iron tip it reheats it enough to flow and rebond
